Day 1 of the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships 2006 in Bath, England
Montreal, September 26th 2006 -
By the end of the first day of competition at the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships 2006, Canada has already tucked thirteen medals under its beanie. Representing the country are 20 of Canada’s elite athletes selected from provinces coast to coast. These lifeguard-athletes are equally divided into two categories – the Canadian National and Development Teams.
The National Team delegates obtained a total of seven medals: three Gold medals, one Silver medal and three Bronze medals. The Development Team delegates obtained the remaining six medals: one Gold medal, three Silver medals two Bronze medals. The Development Team consists of future National Team athletes, who are gaining worthwhile international experience
A total of 250 athletes from different Commonwealth countries including Australia (Rescue 2006 World Champions) are competing for honor and glory between September 24th and the 29th in Bath, England
The next Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships will be held in 2009, in the beautiful city of Edmonton, Alberta
The Lifesaving Society – The Lifeguarding Experts – is a Canadian, national volunteer organization and registered charity. The Society relies on a dedicated group of volunteers and staff to accomplish its mission of drowning prevention in Canada and around the world. The Society’s programs cover a wide range of areas including research, first aid, boating, competitive lifesaving, lifeguarding, and lifesaving both in Canada and internationally.
