June 01 2020 - Call for Athletes – Lifesaving World Championships 2020

In line with its commitment to offer international exposure to its high-performance athletes, the Lifesaving Society is calling for applications from athletes to attend the following major international lifesaving sport championship:

Name:  Lifesaving World Championships 2020
Location: Riccionne, Italy
Dates:  September 20-24, 2020 (tour September 12-25, 2020, subject to change)
Type:  Pool and surf lifesaving
Teams:  National Open Team – up to 6 female, 6 male (subject to change)
National Youth Team – up to 6 female, 6 male (subject to change)

The selection criteria are consistent with International Lifesaving Society (ILS) rules and eligibility criteria at the time of their publication and may be subject to change. The National Sport Commission will make reasonable efforts to advise athletes if it becomes aware of a change that to rules that would in turn impact these selections criteria.

Selection of some Open Team and Youth Team members that have already met selection criteria and received a unanimous nomination from all members of the National Team selection committee will be announced at the conclusion of the 2019 Canadian Surf Lifesaving Championships. The remainder of the Teams will be announced at the conclusion of the 2020 Canadian Pool Lifesaving Championships.

To be considered for early selection, eligible athletes must submit an email of intent highlighting interest to join this delegation and their birthdate by 11:59pm (Eastern time) on August 23, 2019, to Brian Miess, Technical Leaders Committee Chair at To be considered for the remaining positions, the same information must be sent to Brian Miess by 11:59pm (Eastern time) on June 1, 2020.
