National Lifeguard Instructor

The National Lifeguard Instructor certification provides candidates with an understanding of the principles and practices on which the National Lifeguard program is based and explores teaching approaches and techniques appropriate for National Lifeguard candidates. Candidates are trained in and must demonstrate skills, knowledge and attitudes at Competency Level 3.

National Lifeguard Instructors (NLIs) are certified to teach the National Lifeguard option(s) they hold. Specifically, National Lifeguard Instructors who hold:

  • National Lifeguard Pool can teach National Lifeguard Pool.
  • National Lifeguard Waterfront can teach National Lifeguard Waterfront.
  • National Lifeguard Waterpark can teach National Lifeguard Waterpark.
  • National Lifeguard Surf can teach National Lifeguard Surf.

Prerequisites: National Lifeguard (any option) and Lifesaving Instructor certification (need not be current).

Evaluation: All items are evaluated by a National Lifeguard Instructor Trainer.
